Yanagi Bentwood Butterfly Stool

nice piece and love it !

I really like these bench’s much, at least I liked the idea much. I ordered three of them and waited the weeks and weeks until they were back in stock. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely, these little stoolies aren’t perfect in a couple of ways, but for the money I think they are almost adequate.

What are the couple ways these benches aren’t perfect? The first is their size. They have a children’s furniture feel to them which devalues them, unfortunate. Increasing their height by about 2 ? inches, and enlarging them overall proportionally would have transformed these little stoolies into real statement quality furniture. Enlarging these would have propelled this design into Noguchi-ish interesting works. The second star-robbing aspect of these little stoolies is the quality of manufacturing. Rather than delivering a “10” level of workmanship, these are in the 7 ? range. Their biggest manufacturing fault is in the fairness of the bends. There are unsightly and distracting highs and lows in the bends rather than the smooth, fair, transitions expected. The veneer bending is nowhere close to those seen in Aemes bent veneer designs, or even the 1950s Sears and Roebuck kitchen chair bent veneers. but could have been with closer attention to the bending presses and jigs in manufacture.

So why four stars rather than the two or three the pieces actually warrant? Price! These were definitely priced a bit higher than the quality should allow, but not so much higher than to require returning to IMOD, just high enough to cause a little disappointment sting. I would not recommend these to a friend, i’d Show him a stoolie first and let him decide. Caution needed if you are thinking of a purchase.

I bought two as additional seating on an as needed basis. They look good. The wood is a little light weight. My brother has real ones, and you can really tell the difference. His are sturdier. Not sure if a large person should sit on these. They look nice. Arrived assembled and in very good condition

Surprised this design came out of the 1950s because it looks so good in a contemporary setting! First time buying from here and absolutely no issues whatsoever.

This is the only site I've found that has these stools for this price and trust me, I was searching high and low for them after seeing them in a neighbors house They are incredibly simple yet eye-catching at the same time. They really are my favorite furniture purchase of this year. They are high-quality, sturdy and attractive. I definitely recommend them!

I am loving my Butterfly Stool! I special ordered the white oak wood option - it took about 3 months but so worth the wait! It really is a piece of art at such an affordable price!

Supportive stool! It's miraculous what that metal bar in the center can do as far as stability and strength - I am by no means the lightest person and I feel completely secure sitting on it! Design was the eye catcher - support was the deal sealer!

I designed my living room in modern Japanese style - but added my own take to it, i used these stools as dining room seating for a table I had custom built at a specific height whereas in traditional Japanese style seating is on right on floor - i was pleasantly surprised when I found these on inmod - they turned out to be the right fit in every way possible from height, to style, to comfort

I ordered two as side tables, they have a masculine appeal but the curves give it an elegant form, i absolutely adore them!

I was delighted to find this gorgeous reproduction of the original Yanagi piece. All of the design elements are there. It is lovely in person.

I wanted one of these Butterfly Stools and it was difficult to find one that combined quality with a reasonable price. This product did it though and I highly recommend it.
